Agood medium setting for all occasions is 1.5mm on the high E and 2mm on the Low E. That's from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string at 12th fret. You can get away with lower if you are partial to shredding and you play lightly or have a true fretboard. (Image credit: Fix Your Guitar )
Bendingdown G string, finger nail will slide off from under the D string without producing sound from it. When doing fast solo though, often with vibrato at the top of the bend, I must finger-mute adjacent strings (e.g. your D string) as I attack the G string to avoid noise from D string consistently. Palm-mute would not be sufficient. Measuringneck relief at sixth fret. After you have selected your string gauge, neck relief will be the first thing to check. Relief is the amount of forward curvature in the neck along the string path. Relief is needed to make space for the oscillation of the string, which is greatest at its mid-point. A mandolin needs very little relief. Thelow E string being too close to the edge of the fretboard indicates that you are tuning the guitar too often. This also means you have to re-align the fretboard by adjusting the bridge. A standard tuning procedure is needed to fix it. As you can imagine, the simple solution is about adjusting the fret height.Loosebracing, cracks, seam separation. Warble and other strange sounds can also be caused by parts of the guitar coming apart or separating where they should not be. Take the bracing inside of your acoustic. Those pieces of wood should be tightly glued and secured to the wood around it, the top, other braces, etc.
